As part of our continuing educational initiative Wyllys- Saint John's Lodge No. 4 A.F. & A.M. will be hosting a Lodge of Instruction on Monday, January 2 2012 at 7:30 PM. The topic being presented and discussed that evening will be The Chamber of Reflection. The presentation is being given by Worshipful Brother Justin Duffy, Past Master of Wyllys - St. John's Lodge No. 4 and Research Member of the Philosophic Lodge of Research.
Worshipful Brother Duffy will examin the history and ancient usage of the Chamber of Reflection, the dark Chamber and set of symbols that helped our ancient Brothers confront and conquer the basic fears we all face. Discover the symbols of the Chamber and the philosophical lessons they teach. Explore the sociological pressures that led to it's gradual withdrawal, as a window into the expansion and contraction of the Craft over the centuries, citing such contrasting examples as Colonial times, the Anti-Masonic party, Civil War, Occult revival of the 1920a, WWI and the return of American servicemen exposed to French Freemasonry, WWII and the great swelling of our ranks as the soldiers returned, the counter-culture 60s, to the slow growth of today. Consider if now may be a good time to reintegrate the practice. It promises to be a very enlightening and education presentation. Refreshments will follow the presentations.
